Three Cottages Erected About 1759.

The house called Wimble End for many years was three attached cottages, to find the cottage on the north of the three click Wimble End Cottage No 1.

To find the middle cottage of the three click Wimble End Cottage No 2. For the cottage on the south of the three click Wimble End Cottage No 3.

History Known

John Redrup of Great Hampden purchased two of the freehold cottages. Cottage no 3 is listed as belonging to William Stone in 1823.

Mortgages

John Redrup took out the following mortgages for the cottages in: --

1821 with George Lintell

1823 with John Carter Dell. {(Research note. John Carter Dell was the mortgagee in 1823. At the time of the Enclosures of Princes Risborough, he is listed as the owner(mortgagee)}

In 1830 the mortgages were taken over by again by George Lintell, (possibly George Lintell Jnr).

On the death of George Lintell, the mortgages were put in the hands of John Redrup's executors.

Foreclosure

George Lintell's executors foreclosed on the mortgagees and the cottages were put up for sale.

15th February 1850 Conveyance. John Redrup of Great Hampden, blacksmith, to John Paine of Longwick, mealman.

Schedule. Two cottages, one of them erected about 1759, gardens and premises at Lacey Green. Research note. This does read as Cottages nos 1 and 3, as William Stone had the other in 1823 ?)

15th February 1850 Conveyance of part garden. John Redrup of Great Hampden, blacksmith, sold to William Lane the northeast end of the garden of Wimble End Cottage No 1. Also see Green Hedges

By 1910 the Reverend William Robson owned all three cottages which he made into one house, calling it 'Wimblehurst'. This was later changed to 'Wimble End'

TENANT

THE REVEREND WILLIAM ROBSON SOLD TO G.F. LUTHER (a photocopy of this indenture is archived in Lacey Green Village Hall)

February 26^th 1921.   Conveyance.   The Reverend William Robson sold to G.F.Luther Esquire, a major in His Majesty’s army for £1,000.   All that dwelling place, formerly three cottages, now known as “Wimblehurst”, together with two pieces of land, excluding the orchard, now the site of the covered tennis court.

MAJOR GUY FLETCHER LUTHER SOLD TO CHARLES AVIGDOR BIRSTINGL

March 5^th 1926.  Conveyance.   Major Guy Fletcher sold Wimblehurst to Charles Avigdor Birstingl Esq of Town End Farm, Radnage, master printer, for £1,650.

ALBERT STEVENS SOLD TO CHARLES AVIGDOR BIRNSTINGL1926.   Conveyance.   Albert Stevens of Lane Farm sold a piece of land opposite Wimblehurst, to Charles Avigdor Birstingl for £300.

November 13^th 1929.   Licence.   Between Harold Edward Carter of Grymsdyke Lodge, Lacey Green, the grantor and Charles Avigdor Birstingl of Wimblehurst.

“To lay a line of pipes from the stack pipe on the north side of his covered Tennis Court, under land belonging to C.A.Birstingl to a tank, for a yearly rent.” ( A photocopy of this licence is archived in Lacey Green Village Hall)

Wimblehurst now became “Wimble End”

October 10^th 1961.   Conveyance   William Stanley Rhodes sold “Wimble End” to Mr C.J.B and Mrs M D Clogg.

LATER

Rob & Carol Knight

In 1993 a new house called 'The Spinney' was built in the garden.

In 2008 Rob and Carol Knight built 'Acorn Cottage' in their garden, and moved to it from Wimble End.

Mark Carter and Catherine Saunders moved into Wimble End
