Three Cottages Erected About 1759.

The house called Wimble End for many years was three attached cottages To find the cottage on the north of the three click Wimble End Cottage No 1.

For the cottage on the south of the three click Wimble End Cottage No 3.

History Known

John Redrup of Great Hampden purchased two of the freehold cottages. Cottage no 3 is listed as belonging to William Stone in 1823.

Mortgages

John Redrup took out the following mortgages for the cottages in: --

1821 with George Lintell

1823 with John Carter Dell. John Carter Dell was the mortgagee in 1823 at the time of the Enclosures of Princes Risborough, he is listed as the owner(mortgagee)

In 1830 the mortgages were taken over by again by George Lintell, (possibly George Lintell Jnr).

On the death of George Lintell, the mortgages were put in the hands of John Redrup's executors.

Foreclosure

George Lintell's executors foreclosed on the mortgagees and the cottages were put up for sale.

The house later called Wimble End was for many years three attached cottages. No 2 stood in the middle of the three.

Two of three attached cottages, erected about 1759, gardens and premises at Lacey Green.

Cottage no.1, on the north-east of the three also had an orchard, close and hedge, approximately 2 roods.   It was formerly occupied by Thomas Bristow, Jonathon Bristow, Thomas Ginger, James Lacey, Thomas Stone and now by Mr and Mrs James and Mr and Mrs Fox.   The hedges parted it from gardens or land formerly of James Lacey.

Cottage no. 2 middle.   Jesse Hawes 30 shoemaker, Elizabeth 30, Moses 2.

CENSUS 1851

Cottage no. 2 middle.   Jesse Hawes 39 shoemaker, Elizabeth 39, Moses 11 shoemaker, Jesse 7 shoemaker, Mary Ann aged 4.

CENSUS 1861

Cottage no. 2 middle.   Joseph Stone 59 sawyer, Sarah 59 lacemaker, Benjamin 25 sawyer, Joseph 36 widow sawyer, Georgiana g.daughter 9, Robert George grandson 6, Alfred grandson 4.

CENSUS 1871

Cottage no. 2 middle.   Joseph Stone 71 agricultural labourer, Sarah 71.

CENSUS 1881

Cottage no. 2 middle.   Ann Stevenson 52 widow, Rose 11, Ebenezer 9, William 7, Thomas 5, Sarah 4,

June 30th 1885.   Dan Floyd, shoemaker, took a mortgage against no 1 cottage

Adjoining no. 2 middle cottage where Thomas Bristow and his son Thomas had dwelt, then Debroah Lacey, then Jesse Hawes, then widow Stephenson.  Which cottage heretofore belonged to John Redrup, then John Payne (deceased). Now reputed to belong to the heir of the said John Payne

Date not confirmed. The Executors of John Paine sold to Sarah West, Wimble End Cottages nos 2 and 3.

CENSUS 1891

Cottage no. 2 middle.   Horace Janes 30 ag. lab, Agnes M. 28 lacemaker, John 6, Agnes L. 3, Rosa 9 months.

CENSUS 1901

Cottage no. 2 middle.   Albert Baker 38 road labourer, Hannah 27, Albert 6, Sarah 5, Elizabeth 3, Louisa 2, Bessie 4 month

9th December 1901. Conveyance. The Reverend William Robson purchased from Sarah West all those two cottages, nos 2 and 3, with the adjoining gardens

William Robson now owned all three cottages and made them into one house naming it “WIMBLEHURST”. It later was called Wimble End
