Henry Janes born 1828 was the son of John & Martha Janes of Lacey Green.

Mary Ginger born 1930 was the daughter of John & Celia Ginger

Henry and Mary married in 1854.

Henry and Mary had 4 children as follows :-

Bethia Janes born 1856 married William Saunders of Stocken Farm. click William Saunders & Bethia Janes

Thirza Janes died at 6 months

1861 census.   Henry Janes 33 landlord of The Sprat public house, Loosley Row.

Land Purchase. Circa 1863/4 Henry Janes purchased a plot of land from Peter Tyler, part of a new allotment given in 1823 at the Enclosures of Princes Risborough.

New House with Shop Built. On this land he built a premises consisting of a house, with a bread oven and shop and started a bakery business.

Gift of Land for Baptists. Henry was a church man, but he gave a small piece of the ground to his Loosley Row Baptist Chapel customers upon which they built a small brick chapel.

Lane Cottages. On part of the land which he had bought, was a small cottage, the land was adjacent to the shop with the cottage set back from the road. click Lower Road

Another Cottage Attached. In 1868 Henry attached a second cottage to the first.   These were known as Lane Cottage no.1 and Lane Cottage no. 2

1871 census.   Henry 42, baker and grocer, with Mary, his wife and three children.

Another Bakehouse. 1880 circa.   Henry Janes purchased from Josephine Irving, mortgagee of John Cheshire, land in Lacey Green and built another bakehouse. This was to become Bakery Farm.

1881 census.   Henry 51, baker, at Lacey Green, with Mary his wife, Hezekiah, 21, baker with his father, and Annie 15 


Henry Janes died July 29th 1889, aged 61. He left The Bakery Farm to Hezekiah, and the Loosley Row shop and Lane Cottages, Loosley Row to his daughter Annie, who married George Floyd the following year. click Hezekiah & Caroline Janes and George & Annie Floyd for Annie.
