Miles Marshall reported that Florence Janes, when a widow had told him the following :-

Hezekiah Janes was a teetotaller and a non-smoker, he was a quiet, good-living man and a Churchman though with strong evangelical leanings for he was on very friendly terms with the Chapel people and the Sunday School Anniversary was always held in his field.

He was a great admirer of the work of the Salvation Army and would often walk of a Sunday evening, to High Wycombe just to listen to the band and the open-air service.

Hezekiah married Caroline Adams, a local girl of some spirit for she had been a ship's cook before her marriage and had also worked as a cook in America. Together they lie in St John' churchyard near the south doorway, and the gravestone clearly records his death in 1938 at the age of 78.
