Wilf and Rene Sanders came to live in Lacey Green 18 years ago and with a family of boys soon got involved in village activity via the Youth Club. I will always remember Wilf's expertise on Bonfire and Fireworks night arrangements, and his part in preparing the Jubilee Pig Roast. Then more recently his dedication to the Village Hall as booking secretary.
Rene has been at the forefront of many of these events with great catering achievements, for which our hall has become renowned.
In 1977 Rene reluctantly became Chairman of the Derby and Joan 81st Club, which was in danger of folding up, and to her surprise she found it gave her a great satisfaction and pleasure.
When the 'new hall' opened in 1979 she became caretaker for three years, setting a high standard.
We shall miss them.
