The first Turkey Supper was organised by the Village Hall Social Committee in 1972 The cost of tickets was £1.25

February 1976 Report in Hallmark. by the Village Hall Committee. The Turkey Supper still continues to be the Social Committee's most popular function of the year, but this year our thanks go to all the people who rallied round with a wartime spirit of helpfulness to overcome the fact that the tremendous gales of Friday evening left the centre of the village without electricity for two and a half days. Thanks to people who loaned Calor gas heaters and oil lamps, - to the band who blew their hearts out without electronic gear. A marvellous candlelit evening with a profit of £80.

If you are one of the lucky ones to have a ticket for the annual Turkey Supper please phone Marcia Prince (P.R.3112) to book a table for your size party, tickets have been limited, and with the enlarged hall we should avoid the difficulties of past years seating. "In the past years , thanks to the catering efforts of Geoff & Marcia Prince, a rousing evening of dancing after the 'eats' shook down the supper. For this one occasion the hall does not appear to be big enough.

Many thank to all the helpers who helped prepare and make the evening run so smoothly, also our thanks to villagers who donated raffle prizes, and once again thanks to Geoff and Marcia and all who participated in this event. It was an evening to remember.

Profit to Hall Fund was £380.

Once again the Turkey Supper on February 5th was a great success. Derek Lynn's Band was very popular and they certainly earned their fee. Very many thanks to Marcia Prince and all the Social Committee and others who help to make this such a happy occasion.

April 1984 report in Hallmark by Lily Barber, Village Hall Social Committee Secretary. Once again the Turkey Supper was a great success, some folk say "the best ever". We seem to go from strength to strength with this event, thanks to Marcia Prince, the Social Committee, and all the villagers that rallied round. A special thanks to the folk who donated prizes for the raffle, which netted £74. The whole evening made a profit of £431, a record and a really great effort. April 1986 report in Hallmark. by Lily Barber. The Turkey Supper has now become almost an institution, this year the tickets our 13th, we had no superstitious qualms.

Within a few weeks from the announcement in the magazine all the tickets were sold. Our only reservation was that our clientele were getting older but that wasn't evident all the evening on the dance floor.

An excellent supper, with the sweet table again par excellance showing once again the craft of many of the ladies. The table flower decorations superb as always be Barbara Hebberd. (click Barbara Hebberd for more about Barbara.)

It was a marvellous evening of happiness and gaiety, even the workers seemed to get a kick out of it, and remember some of them had worked from 10 o'clock in the morning to well after midnight, and it's their efforts and your support that enables the Village Hall funds to benefit by £436,

This was Marcia's last Turkey Supper as she is unfortunately leaving the village and she was presented with a suitably inscribed glass plate (locally engraved by Sally Pilkington). We thank her for al past services, and wish her all the best in the future.

Hallmark April 1989. Report by Ted Janes. The event was, as usual, a great success socially and financially. A record profit to Village Hall funds of £478.85 was due to the continued support of our clientele and the hard work of the ladies, particularly I thank Diane, Rosemary and Jane.

Hallmark February 1992. Notice. Stop Press - Sunday 2nd February. Report by Ted Janes (Editor). Writing only hours and still hardly awake, after the Turkey Supper, I want to say "thank-you" to everyone who turned up on what surely was so far the worst night of the winter, to all those who worked throughout the day, those who prepared the food at home, to the waiters and waitresses, to Lilian for the table decorations, to the bar men, but particularly to Rachel Panter for the excellent catering.

Hallmark April 1994. Report by Pat Smart. The Turkey Supper in its 21st year lived up to the usual standards of excellence expected of it. Te first hour was spent greeting friends, some of whom hadn't been seen since last years Turkey Supper - We enjoyed the meal prepared by Rachel and her volunteer helpers in the preparation of the meal, hall, tables, decorations, raffle, bar and of course the cleaning up after the event.

At present no profit figures are available, but the attendance of 99 was in keeping with that of previous years and we confidently expect a good result.

Hallmark February 1995. Many thanks to all who helped before, during and after the event. A lot of work by these volunteers made the evening another great success. We couldn't do without you.
