Starting off as a shed built in a garden in Church Lane, Lacey Green, it was many years before the property became known as 'Green Hedges'

Lot 2. William Floyd (see William and Sophia Floyd) of Lane Farm, Lacey Green purchased from John Redrup of Great Hampden, blacksmith: ---

The north end of the garden of Wimble End Cottage No 1.

Researcher's Note. On this site was a building that had been a blacksmiths shop. William first used this as a barn then made it into a cottage. His parents, Joseph & Jane Floyd moved into the cottage, whilst William and Sophia remained at Lane Farm, opposite. Joseph and Jane established a grocery store at the cottage. The cottage/shop was later called "Green Hedges".

1851 Census. Joseph Floyd 56 shopkeeper, Jane 51 shopkeeper, Eliza 23 lacemaker, Emma 19 lacemaker, Dan 15 shoemaker, Sarah Jane 12.

1861 Census. Joseph Floyd 66 grocer, Jane 61 grocer, Sarah Jane 22 governess of infant school.

21 July 1868. Sarah Jane Floyd married Jabez Dell

Conveyance 1st October 1869. Jabez Dell purchased the land, cottage and garden from William Floyd for £60. (£40 to pay off mortgage plus £8 interest due - £12 to William Floyd)

1871 Census. Joseph Floyd 76 shopkeeper, Jane 71 shopkeeper, Sarah Dell,32 daughter shopkeeper, Emma Dell 8 months.

Deaths Jane Floyd died in 1871. Joseph Floyd died in 1877.

1881 Census. Jabus Dell 50 grocer, Sarah 42 lacemaker, Emma Dell 10, Cecil Dell 8, Lily 7. Daisy 4

1911 Census. House with 8 rooms. Sarah Jane Dell 72 widow grocer, Ralph 29 carpenter, Lily Jane 37 dressmaker.

1912 Death of Sarah Jane Dell.

Green Hedges was inherited by Bill Dell. It was then let for many years.

Bob & Millicent Martin lived there for several years after 1953

Brian & Jill Sutton lived there in the early 1960s

Phillip & Elain Dell moved there from Kia Cottage in ? (Phillip is Bill Dell's son)
