"Tomorrow Mr and Mrs Rupert James Rixon will be celebrating their diamond wedding. Mr Rixon - Jim as he is known locally - is a native of Lacey Green, and he courted Beatrice May of Walters Ash for four years before they were married in Hughenden Church.
Tomorrow they hope to return to the church where they were married to give thanks for 60 years of happy married life, as they did on their golden anniversary.
Mr and Mrs Rixon told our representative that in their young days it was all walking, and they thought nothing of walking to High Wycombe and back in an evening. They remember the ride to the church in the wagonette for their wedding, and the many happy years spent in the service of the Earl of Buckinghamshire.
Jim was a chair bodger in Hampden Woods when he married. Shortly afterwards he became a farmer at Green Hailey Farm for four years, before becoming the head woodsman on Hampden Estate.
Mr Rixon often talks about the days when Hampden Woods were a hive of activity with all the local chair bodgers working there. His job was to mark the different lots for the bodgers, and many have said what a square deal they always had from Jim.
Jim retired 15 years ago and then moved from Redland End back to his native Lacey Green where they have had a bungalow built. There are four daughters, one son, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and the family with a few friends will be gathering at Lacey Green Village Hall for a family celebration tomorrow.
Mrs Rixon that the happiest time of her married life was spent at Redland End, where she started a Sunday School with her own two daughters, and when she had to leave there were twenty two regular attenders. Both Jim and Beatrice have been members of the Lacey Green Methodist Church.
Jim is the third brother in his family to celebrate his diamond wedding. It is not often that three brothers achieve this milestone. His eldest brother is dead, but the other brother, Tommy, and his wife still live in the village."
