1964-1970 Derek Walker living at Northlea. Lower Road, LR. Head D. Anthony with Mr Keen, Miss Agnew, Mrs Stansfield, Miss Briggs. Vicar Rev Houghton. Punishments- threat of the cane or doing choir practise in lunch hour.

Additional Information. 1st day at school. I can still remember the frosted glass in the grey door that I pounded, screaming for my mum to come back. Maybe it's that sort of bad start that made us call Miss Briggs 'Miss Pigs' (oh, the subtlety of children's humour!) Mind you she didn't endear herself to me by having a go at me for humming while reading a book. I don't think it was long into my school career when I was found by the older Dells walking back home at lunchtime. My escape only got me as far as West's farm.

The climbing frame. I can remember hanging upside down on the middle bar of the climbing frame and Mr Anthony telling me off because it would be dangerous if I fell - in those days there was just concrete under the climbing frame.

Sports Day - my worst sporting moment. Mr Anthony lined us up for a running race in 2 rows at the start. He told us that the smaller ones in the front would go 1st, and then we bigger ones at the back, next. I thought we'd wait for the front row to get all the way to the finishing line before our row started. When I found myself alone at the start I realised I'd got it wrong ....and had too much catching up to do to hope to get a placing.

Other memories not too good for fellow pupils - like the girl who picked her nose and eating it in public; or the girl who wasn't too pleased when the fish tank in Mrs Stansfield's class broke onto her - complete with slimy molluscs.

Historic moments, like watching the moon landing, and all the writing to NASA that we did.

Other memories- testing for 11+. the swimming pool being built. not enjoying semolina, singing 'Sprit in the Sky' by the school entrance in playtime, reading books at break in the library, near the tropical fish tank and waiting for the bus home.

-

1966-1969 Ianthe Brownrigg living at The Salmon, LR. Head Mr Anthony with Miss Agnew, Mrs Stansfield. Vicar-Rev Houghton. Played British Bulldog, French skipping, Grandmother's footsteps.

Additional Information. Came last in the egg & spoon race on sports day.

My first teacher used to keep a tin of sweets. If you did something good you would stand on a chair at the front of the class & choose a sweet.

Knocked out my two front teeth falling over in the playground - a traumatic childhood memory.

Hand writing lessons were always a worry to me. We used nibbed ink pens and as I am left handed I broke a lot of nibs in my time!

My mother would collect me from school in our Mini Traveller. I remember the number plate - PPP257D. If I couldn't find the number plate by the end of the line of cars I'd burst into tears and start my walk back to Loosley Row.

I have vivid memories of my first few days at school. The head teacher, Mr Anthony would have to carry me in kicking & thumping over his shoulder!

This all sounds a little bit on the negative side but I have very many happy memories of friends and games, especially British bulldog which the whole school seemed to play at lunch break. And very fond memories of my teachers.

-

1967- 1969 Tom William Tagg living at Chippins, Main Roag, LG. Head Mr Anthony with ? Vicar Rev Houghton. Sports- football.

-

1967-1970 Daphne Beatrice Tagg living at RAF Bradenham then Chippins, Main Road, LG. Head Mr Anthony with Mr Keen, Mrs Stansfield. Vicar Mr Houghton. School uniform-yes.

Additional Information. I remember the swimming pool being dug by parents - although not swimming in it.

Also Mr Keen (I think) railing against Enid Blyton and reading us 'Five Children and It' as an example of a really good book.

I remember the morning we sat the 11+ and the feeling that life would be ruined if one didn't pass!
