LLS Youth Club

From Lacey Green History

The LLS Youth Club was started by Joan Smith in 2021. The Club meetings were to be in the Village Hall. At that time the children attending both the village and Speen schools had no where to go in the evenings. Joan convinced parents they needed to help- the club has not looked back since.

We have recently had a session at Fun Splash at Risborough Springs, with Tag Rugby and Laser Tag lined up for later in the summer term. Hopefully with the weather getting better, we can do more outside activities!

This term we have had 2 young adults helping as part of their D of E award. Thank you to Martha Rigg and Rose Symmons for their time and support so far this year.

We will return for the Autumn term on Friday 6th September, where we will be inviting the next group of year 6 pupils from Lacey Green, Speen, Loosely Row and those that attend St John’s School.

As with all volunteer run organisations, we are always looking for helpers and volunteers who would like to join us; or any locals that may have particular skills or hobbies that they would like to share with our young people. So, if this is you...please do get in touch!

Thank you so much to all the parents who have been helping out so far this term and last term. Without these helpers we would not be able to offer this fabulous club to our youngsters.

We are still welcoming lots of new members; with the Youth Club being a really popular social event for our local youngsters with over 60 attendees from Year 6- Year 9 every session!

We started the new school year with an amazing Laser Tag event, which was postponed from last term due to the weather. The kids had a great time and the turn out was phenomenal! Thank you to St John’s school for allowing us to use their field to host the evening.

Rush Trampoline Park. see report November 2023

Our most recent outing was to Rush trampoline park in High Wycombe, where we took 51 children! They had so much fun bouncing with their friends that I think this will definitely be something that we do again in the future!

We still have a few sessions left this term, both at the village hall and at Roller Mania, at Wycombe leisure centre and we will be ending this term again with a disco featuring ‘DJ Chris’ on our last session of the year, Friday 15th December.

The youth club is still very grateful to have Harry Patient who is helping us out at the moment, as a volunteer, as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award. lf anyone else would like to volunteer as part of the award, please get in touch.

We meet fortnightly, for just £3 a session, at the Millennium Hall, 7:30pm-9pm. All children Year 6-9, who live in Lacey Green, Loosely Row or Speen are welcome to attend; as well as those who attended St John’s school. The dates are also available on the Lacey Green Website.

Hallmark May 2023. Report by Natasha Kann – Youth Club Leader

Lacey Green, Loosley Row and Speen Youth Club has enjoyed another wonderful term filled with fun and excitement!

We are still welcoming lots of new members; with the Youth Club being a really popular social event for our local youngsters with over 40 attendees every session!

This term we enjoyed a Karate taster session with Richard Drury from Seido Karate, which was lots of fun. The children particularly enjoyed watching the stick fighting and looking at the weapons that the black belts use when training. Thank you to Richard for giving up his time to talk to the youth club members.

We had an amazing time at ‘Roller Mania’ at Wycombe Leisure Centre. By the end of the night, most of the children were competent on their skates, with much fewer of them falling on the floor!

see report August 2023

Prior to Mother’s Day, we had a fused glass workshop with Cathy Henshaw from Hen-On-The-Shore, where the children were able to make their own tea light holder with fused glass. The children had a great time designing their own piece of glass work and we had some beautiful finished designs. I hope that the mums on Mother’s Day, who received a tea light holder, loved their presents! Thank you to Cathy for giving up her time and teaching the children some of her skills.

We ended this term with a disco. DJ Chris was brilliant and made the night a memorable one. I would highly recommend his DJ service and no doubt he will be visiting the youth club again in the future!

The tuck shop is always a huge success and helps towards raising funds! The children love being able to spend their pocket money, with the option to pay on card available too. Although, you may be surprised to hear that lots of the children do also opt to choose the free fruit and veg on offer each week!

Thank you to Harry Patient who is helping us out at the moment, as a volunteer, as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award. If anyone else would like to volunteer as part of the award, please get in touch.

We meet fortnightly this term from Friday 21st April for just £3 a session, at the Millennium Hall, 7:30pm-9pm.
