Gertrude Emma Hoare born 1877 came from Wales

Albert and Gertrude married in 1907 at Amersham.

1911 census. Station Road, Amersham. Albert Stevens 35 (born 1876) Road foreman for C.C., Gertrude 34 small drapery shop keeper, Albert Edgar 3 months.

Researcher's Note. Dudley & Marion Stevens (Dudley is Albert's grandson) wrote the following information for me :-

"The grandmother of Dudley Stevens was Gertrude Hoare. She came from Wales into domestic service to Shardlows House, Amersham. Here she met Albert Stevens who worked in the gardens. She used to sing and he played the violin. After their marriage they lived at Amersham on the Hill with a little drapers shop, where Dudley's father, Albert Edgar, was born.

When the 1914-18 war started Dudley's grandfather was conscripted and he came back at the end of the war with shell shock. After buying several cottages and little shops, he moved to Kimble.

Albert Edgar went to school at Kimble where he was in the same class as Doug Tilbury's mother. see Reg & Lucy Tilbury

In 1925 there was an auction at the George & Dragon pub, Princes Risborough, to which Albert went with the intention of bidding for a property opposite Bottle Cottage, Lace Green but being outbid he bought Lane Farm with 60 acres of land. Albert Edgar should have continued at Lacey Green School as he was only 14, but grandad Albert paid a fine to let him stay and help on the farm.

In time Albert Edgar met Clara at the fair in Risborough. They married in 1938 and Dudley was born in 1940 at 'Clarensted', Loosley Row. The family moved across the road to 'Edgerley' when he was 2 weeks old.

Grandad Albert was killed on the railway line at Pictonville, so he never got to live in Loosley Row.
