Advance Notice in Hallmark. The village annual fete will be held on Saturday, 28th June at Green Meadow, New Road, Lacey Green. By kind permission of Mr George Cowell and Mr Arthur Watters of Grymsdyke Farm

Hallmark August 1980 by Ted Janes (editor).

We catered for 1200 people, with the weather and clashing with Risborough Carnival, due to the new date I thought we were lucky that 700 people came. The projected profit of £500 was reduced to £179.

Nevertheless, I dare to suggest it was a happy, enjoyable fete if not profitable. Some of our people are now saying that the work involved with a fete is so great, and the return so precious and disappointing that they have had enough, and I can understand that, because these people (just a few) worked almost till they dropped. Hopefully these remarks will be heard by a new team. IF WE WANT TO KEEP THIS AS A VILLAGE, ONE OF THE ESSENTIALS DAYS IN THE LIFE OF A VILLAGE IS FETE DAY, PROFIT OR NO PROFIT. IT USED TO BE ENJOYED BY ALL, NOW IT HAS BECOME THE BURDEN OF A FEW. WHAT HAS GONE WRONG ITH US?
