April 16th and 17th many boys off gathering fallen wood after strong winds (with parents approval)

October 8th some boys off blackberrying most days this week (with parents approval)

November 5th several boys off stone picking (with parents approval)

To many parents collecting wood from the parish woodlands and collecting things for which they were paid, however little, was more important than school.

November 26th Some of the parents kept their children home as they have not got the school pence.
