Kathleen Turner represented St John's School Association on the Village Hall Committee in 1980 and 1981.
In 1992 an item was published in Hallmark being a report by Clem Brown of meeting Kathleen Turner :- (it has been edited to remove Clem's personal opinions)
Promised Land Farm is an active farm, It's not big, only 100 acres. There reside the Turners in somewhat isolated splendour.. My purpose in visiting was to talk to Kathleen Turner. Mrs Turner comes from Co. Durham, bringing little of the northern accent to the south where she has lived locally the past 28 years.
Nowadays it's dairy farming. Gordon Turner has a herd of 50 milking cows, and the bullocks and calves bring a total to around 120. Life is ordered by the needs of the animals, difficult calvings, the trust in a vet who is good with large livestock. The day starts at about 5 am with the milking. Then it's breakfast, feeding the animals and general clear-up. By then it is lunch time and the prospect of a short rest, but the next milking is soon due. More tidying up and maintenance and a trip to the pub.
Kathleen, a devoted grandma at 49, met Gordon when working at the local RAF base. Now their son Ian works for them at Lacey Gree.
Mrs Turner is very involved in W.I. activities as a market organiser. She and another helper take on the role of master-minds with the marketing of home-made goodies such as cakes, jams, preserves and craft items produced on a small scale . Don't take too much notice of EEC directives from Brussels, as I suspect that our cottage industries will continue to flourish in the face of adversity. Kathleen is also an advisory member of the Young Farmers Club at Princes Risborough and professes dressmaking skills.
