WW1 started on 28th July 1914 to end 11th November 1918

Loosley Row & Lacey Green Schools.

Loosley Row School was closed for the period of the war.  The following entries were recorded in the logbook of Lacey Green School in 1914.

“June 12^th.   First 3 children were admitted from Loosley Row Church of England School, which will be closed for the period of the war.  Children's names are to be retained on the registers of that school and entries in summary are to be continued in the Loosley Row School for their scholars.

 A copy of notice sent to parents, owing to an increase of scholars from Loosley Row, children under five from this school will be excluded during the period of the war, by order of the County Council.

  June 13^th. Scholars form Loosley Row School were admitted today and amalgamated with the different classes.

Mabel Janes reported - "During the First World War the Royal Engineers were billeted in the village. They took the small schoolroom and the Home Meadow at Stocken Farm, next to the school. The horses were stabled at the farm and exercises were done in the field. The farm dining room was made into an army hospital and the grain store into their blacksmith`s workshop.

Extract from Horace & Ivy Rixon -

"November 1916 Horace Rixon. WW1, Report in Bucks Free Press

"Private H. Rixon of the 2nd Ox & Bucks Light Infantry has returned from France, suffering from severe shellshock & now lies in Birkenhead Hospital. He was engaged in tunnelling when a shell exploded, burying him and 9 comrades, 25 feet deep. Eleven hours elapsed before all were unearthed, when it was found that 8 were dead & 1 had broken limbs.
