A tribute to Roger Benyon of Leigh Cottage by Syd and Ann Attridge, Lucille, Kerry and Vincent of Charmwood Cottage.

Roger wasn't just a neighbour, he was a dear friend, a grandfather and uncle all rolled into one. We knew him for more than thirty four years. We first met Roger just before we got married, as he used to give Ann a lift to the furniture factory in Princes Risborough where they both worked.

Our friendship blossomed with Roger and Ivy especially after Lucille and Kerry were born. Although we lived a quarter of a mile away in Portobello Cottage then, their help was always there. Roger initiated our coming to live next door to them, when the cottage became available 26 years ago. That was the year Roger retired from the factory and what a celebration he had, a garden party with all the flags flying. Two months later our Vincent was born and as he grew up he never left Roger's side. We all became one big happy family and did so much together.

Roger, we will miss seeing you pottering around your much loved shrubs and flowers in the garden. We will miss the many stories of the past you used to tell. We will miss your wonderful sense of humour and we will miss your being part of our family. But we will find comfort in remembering some of your last words - "I've had a happy life".

You will never been forgotten.
