Review in Hallmark August 1983. Joseph And His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

The motorist passing through Lacey Green on the 1st and 2nd July might be forgiven for thinking that the notice outside Stocken Farm announcing "Joseph Here Tonight" might be heralding the arrival of a rock-group or even a revival meeting. The combined choirs production of "Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat" was neither, although there was plenty of rhythm in Andrew Lloyd Webber's music and the Old Testament story was never very far away.

Stocken Farm was an ideal setting for the production and Mike Beaumont and Brian Panter did an excellent job with the stage set and lighting. There was a full house on both Friday and Saturday nights and the hard work which had been put into the production was well rewarded.

Will McBurnie directed the orchestra and took the soloists and chorus through the score with gusto. Nell Panter produced and Julia Beaumont directed. click Michael & Julia Beaumont and click Brian & Nell Panter for more of these couples.

‘Joseph' had eleven brothers and it was significant that the show was a family affair. Apart from Julia and Mike Beaumont's contribution, young Julian gave a creditable performance as young Jacob and three generations of the Putman family also took part. Stephen Eastham coped well with the part of the older Joseph.

Peter Bowen was a first-class narrator.

Star of the show was Nick Stevens whose energetic rendering of "Stone the Crows" brought the house down. This was the first time that the Lacey Green Community Choir and the St. John's Church Choir had combined to perform a musical. It was an ambitious enterprise and deserves to be repeated.

The support from the village was most encouraging and it could well be that this was the first of many.
