Alan Terence Solman 1926-2008: husband to Vera; father of Mike and Tracy; grandfather to Lawrence, Freddie, Leo and Oliver; a dedicated family man and good friend and mentor; a regular churchgoer; a successful business man working in the How Group and Lewis Electrical in the Engineering industry; a keen rugby player for London Wasps and supporter; a dedicated fan of New Orleans jazz (who had visited New Orleans a number of times); a supporter of village activities; a fund raiser for the Village Hall; a member of the Village Hall committee (until he retired on age grounds); an enthusiastic do-it-yourselfer (who was always looking to maintain his home to the highest standards); a wall builder (who created a number of unique artistic walls); a very able builder's advisor and helper; a survivor of prostate cancer and of major heart surgery (the first time); a great man who will be missed by everyone who knew him.
