Robin Oakford described Lacey Green School in 2000 in a questionnaire at a school reunion organised by The Local History Group.
Attended 1942 - 1953. Left aged 15. Mrs Gurney was the headmistress, other teachers Miss Janes and Miss Jarvis. The Reverend Steward was the vicar. About 25 in the class. They had free milk and he enjoyed school meals. The toilet was outside. Both his parents had attended the school. Now (2000) living at Leaview, Loosley Hill Road, Loosley Row.
Marion told The History Group the following :-
Marion first met her husband at a wedding. She first came to the village in 1963 after they married.
As soon as she arrived, Robin's parents, Ernest (Hobbs) and Rosalyn Oakford (click Ernest & Rosalind Oakford ) got her involved in the paper round. She delivered to Pink Road, Parslows Hillock, Redland End and Great Hampden. This all had to be done before 8 o'clock in the morning, so that Robin could go to work at Molins. The papers came on the train from London to High Wycombe , and would be sorted into piles by Rosalyn. It was a very long way, but if a paper was missing, she would have to go back for it. She walked, and had to carry all the papers. A recurring problem would be trying to avoid savage dogs. Even when the Pink Road was closed by snow, she was expected to get through.
She stopped delivering papers in 1969 when the first of their children came along. She did not have any other work then, but just looked after the children.
