Herbert and Alice were married in 1892 in Bethnal Green. London.

1911 census at Woodway, Loosley Row. Herbert Witney 41 grocer, Alice 41, Herbert Owen 17 assisting in business, Edith 13 born Bradenham. Archibald 11 born Turnip End, Percy 8, Reginald 5, Constance Alice 9 months. note. Percy, Reginald and Constance Alice all born at Turnip End or Woodway, Loosley Row.
Researchers Note. Dennis Claydon had reported to me that there was a widely known story about how a man was caught for stealing a ham from a grocer's premises on Woodway. The grocer told no-one of this theft. Some months later a man asked him if he ever found out who stole the bacon.
Quickly checking with his wife that she had not told anybody, he was able to say that he just had.
The following report confirms it all nicely, although the reporter has confused Lacey Green for Loosley Row as was quite a common mistake.

ONE MONTHS HARD LABOUR.
ANDREW BRISCOE was sentenced to 1 month’s hard labour for stealing 15lbs of bacon from Herbert Witney, a grocer of Lacey Green.
