Notes added by Laurence Rostron

  1. This indenture is a simpler version of the one dated 9th November 1629.
  2. The purpose of the indenture (agreement) i.e. for William Wydmer to buy the lease (in modern terms) from Sir Robert Dormer for woods called Stockings.
  3. However, the major difference is that this time the price is £240.00 a significant reduction from ££540.00
  4. The size of the wood is 60 acres.
  5. The term of the lease is again different at 24 years
  6. Stockings – the name of many woods and is relative to tree density. It is believed that the Parish of Princes Risborough had several Stockings woods but if this one refers to Lacey Green is unclear.
  7. The transcription contains many strange spellings – too many to list – but most can be understood when read in context.
  8. There are also a number of words that I cannot decipher.
  9. Names of persons in indenture:
  1. Sir Robert Dormer knight of Chilton Lodge.
  2. William Wydmer of Chepping Wycombe
