On Saturday 18th June, Loosley Row residents celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday by having a village street party.

Lower Road was closed off and gazebos, tents, tables and chairs were set up along the road for a day full of fun and celebrating. Joyce Walker and Rita Probert started off the proceedings by giving a delightful opening speech, which was followed by the village residents’ rendition of the National Anthem.

For lunch and refreshments, we indulged in the sharing of delicious picnics, drinking Pimms and Chiltern Ales, and tasting competition cakes and scones for afternoon tea at the ‘tea tent’. The afternoon’s activities, all announced by our own compere Tim MacGillivray, included cake and horticulture competitions, children’s crafts, dressing up, treasure hunt, face painting, games and races, a comprehensive and professional ‘History Corner’ display, a chipmunk aircraft fly-by and loop-the-loop, tombola and raffle prizes, pony and sheep petting corner at Palmers Yard, prize winners presentations, and singing and dancing with our fantastic artist, Martin Sutton and guests!

We were very successful in raising money for three chosen local charities, Orla’s Steps, the Chiltern MS Centre, and Wycombe Women’s Aid.

We all had a wonderful day celebrating the Queen’s 90th Birthday, as well as taking the opportunity to meet many members of the Loosley Row community new and old.

Thank you very much to all involved in making the day such a success.
