In 1932 houses were built on the north side of the occupation road, servicing the Allotment. see Allotment Society. As these were built on bits of allotment this road of houses was known as ‘The Bitfield’. Thirty years later it was renamed ‘Westlands Road'.
In 1965 from the bottom (west) end of the service road the houses were called 'Casa Mia', 'Seven Winds', '?', 'Linden Lea', 'Mistley', '?', 'Hill Court' and 'Bitfield'. At the end of the road was the garden of 'Belle Vue' which faced onto the Main Road.
