THE INCLOSURES

Thomas Eggleton’s name appears twice in the documents of the Enclosures of the Manor of Princes Risborough in 1823.    He has the following: -

1.      Enclosure number 568.   An old enclosure, rented from the Manor with house and garden.

2.      Enclosure number 619.   An old enclosure of bare land.   Newly allotted.

THE HOUSE

His name does not appear anywhere so it is most likely that he was living in the house built on number 568.  

ED’S RESEARCH

No further mention has been found of Thomas Eggleton.   However in the 1841 census this house is lived in by Jesse Ward and his wife Ruth.   Jesse came from Speen.   Ruth’s maiden name was Eggleton.

Four cottages were built on the land that was enclosure number 619.   In 1906 these were sold by Mary Ann Allen, the daughter of Alfred Ward, son of Jesse Ward and Ruth Ward, nee Eggleton.
