Hallmark October 15th 1997. Question Master - Jane Brown

The W.I. Village Quiz on 15th October was a successful event and despite being unable to field Doreen DeGray on the W.I. team as her daughter and grand-daughter had compiled and asked the broad spectrum of questions, the Afternoon W.I. team won again. To be honest and sparing her blushes (wot, Kathleen?), such credit has to go to Kathleen Turner for her inspired guesses at times and the dredging up of almost forgotten facts! As always, there was no charge to enter a team and the usual excellent raffle prizes brought in a fair sum, added to by the collection made during the evening, so that something like £150 was given to Village Hall funds. The Afternoon W.I. is grateful to scrutineers Shirley and Michael Billsborough, to all members and others who helped in various ways but particularly to Sarah and Jane Brown.

During the evening the President, Kathleen, appealed for pictures of the first Village Hall as the Afternoon W.I. propose making a wall hanging for the new hall, depicting the previous ones. Another fundraising event for the Village Hall Funds will be a coffee morning to be held at Pondside, Kiln Lane, home of member Doris Oliver, on 19th November at 10.30am., featuring the usual bring and buy, and raffle.
