We had no idea that Palmer & Harvey were to close when we featured the history of the premises last edition. It’s only a rumour, but if planning application is submitted for houses on the site, it will be a sad end to the old tennis court. It’s not a pretty building, but very much part of old Lacey Green and an accepted building doing a very useful job in supplying jobs for village people. So if anyone asked us what is best for the community – 20 new houses or 20 local jobs – we should have no hesitation in saying the latter. | We had no idea that Palmer & Harvey were to close when we featured the history of the premises last edition. APRIL 1986. COMMENT IN HALLMARK by the editor - PALMER AND HARVEY TO CLOSE
Hallmark May 1986. Report by Parish Coucillor Ray Gosling
The Palmer & Harvey site is somewhat different. Although not within: an industrial area in the eyes of the planning authorities it is already a developed site with established. light industrial use. The District Council's policy in these cases is to encourage these areas to be redeveloped for housing, hence we feel sure that a housing scheme will take place. The timing and plans for any ‘such development' is solely with the owners of the land, all we as a Parish Council can do is to try and establish some lines of communication with the land owners and to influence them to propose a scheme. which is suited to the locality. PLANNING APPLICATION
In 1991, in need of repair, a planning application was made to demolish the building and build houses on the site.

THE ROAD to PLANNING PERMISSION research by Joan West
The Planning application for the Palmer and Harvey site was fraught with village comment, as Hallmark was to bear witness.
Research Note. This may have been made by Palmer and Harvey, or it may have still belonged to John’s of High Wycombe, bakers.
DECEMBER 1990. Report in Hallmark by Councillor Dennis Claydon
Palmer and Harvey are currently considering the future development of their site in Church Lane. One suggestion proposes the erection of twenty-four, two and three bedroom houses. Twenty of these would be for sale on the open market whilst four would be retained under a Trust, administered by the Parish Council, for first time buyers. The Company however are prepared to listen to local opinion and are anxious that the village should be consulted. It is hoped to arrange a public meeting in the near future when positive contributions will receive due consideration.
PLANNING PERMISSION
1991 Palmer and Harvey applied for planning permission to demolish the old indoor tennis court and to replace with housing

Hallmark May 1989. Extract from report by District Councillor Jean Gabbitas
Sadly, there has been no contact between the village representatives and those who may put in an application for the Palmer & Harvey site. Apart from the meeting I initiated a few months after Palmer & Harvey closed down all enquiries have been greeted by a deafening silence.
