Research Note. James Jenkins of Turnip End Cottage brought to me a picture found in the house when they had moved in. It was of a document and had been reframed. He said I may cut it out of the frame as there was writing on the back which might be worth looking at. It was indeed, as it gave much information of William Lacey and his will which took 56 years to resolve.

William was a bricklayer by trade.
William and Mary Ann married in 1811 in Bishopsgate, London.
William at some point remarried

27th March 1829 INDENTURE
Now this indenture witnesseth that the said Stephen Clinch of Green Terrace, Islington, Mddx, gentleman and Ann his wife for and in consideration of one hundred and forty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to him Stephen Clinch by the said William Lacey in hand well and truly paid.
Schedule. All that cottage wherein John Biggs formerly dwelt now in the occupation of Caleb West situate and being at a certain place called Darvills Hill, within the parish of Princes Risborough, together with a close of grass ground adjoining to the cottage containing by estimate 1 acre, adjoining also on the south and west the wood-ground (grove)of the Reverend Edward Stone and on the north and east the land of the late Richard Wade containing about a rood and a half.
26th July 1857 WILLIAM LACEY DIED
.William Lacey returned from Bishopsgate to die at Turnip End and is buried in Lacey Green graveyard.
WILLIAM LACEY’s WILL was long and very detailed but unfortunately it ran into difficulties due to problems with executors and deaths therefore but by a judgement of the Chancery Division of the High Court of Justice it was ordered that the real and personal estate of the Testator should be administered under the direction of the Court. In a second action on 26 April 1893 the judge was of the opinion that according to the will of the Testator the surviving issue of the three grandsons originally named to inherit, however remotely, should inherit equally between the three families of William, James and Jesse Lacey, the three sons of William

7th November 1913. Indenture of Conveyance. Now this Indenture witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of £150 now paid to the Trustees of the said William Lacey at the request and by the direction of the parties hereto of the second to ninth part inclusive (the receipt whereof the Trustees hereby acknowledge). The Trustees hereby convey and confirm unto the said William Lacey of 32 Argyle Road SE London, stationer, one of the Trustees -
Schedule. All those two pieces of land situate at Darvills Hill near Princes Risborough in the county of Buckingham formerly in the occupation of Benjamin Smith, late of Mrs Casbeard and now unoccupied Together with the cottage now falling down erected on one of the said pieces of land and the outbuildings erected on the other piece of land. In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above mentioned.
