Widmer Farm

Research by Joan West

THE SITE

The land upon which Widmer Farm was built was part of the Common of Princes Risborough.   The people from the town brought their cattle up onto it to graze.   The driftway from Risborough which they used, led to the pond, near which the farm was later established. Widmer Farm and The Pink and Lily were the first two properties built on Pink Road.

SALE OF THE COMMON

Widmer Farm 1945

In 1823, at the time of the enclosures of Princes Risborough, the Common was divided up and put up for sale.   The part upon which Widmer Farm was established was purchased by Lord George Henry Cavendish.

Lord George Henry Cavendish sold to Merton College, Oxford.

Hallmark November 1997. Report by Mike Piercy. The following is an extract from an article by Mike Piercy, published in Hallmark in May 2015. Mike had been discussing the work of the Parish Council with Cathryn Davies, the Council Chairman. However he also added a little about Cathryn Davies, who lives at Widmer Farm as follows - "Cathryn is a very busy person with many other interests. The majority of her time is spent working with her family on the various businesses they have based at Widmer Farm.

Many of us pet owners will be aware of the Widmer Feeds pet shop which is a massive warehouse catering for the needs of all pets from gerbils through to horses. They also sell small animals, some fish and birds and chickens. Cathryn is keen to make the place attractive for kids to visit and is planning a pat-a-pet area.

Though she no longer rides herself, she is very involved with her two daughters running the livery yard and equestrian training school on the Widmer Farm site. They also host the Lacey Green Polo Club who have competetive matches on her fields every weekend throughout the summer.
