Researchers Note. Thomas Bristow started work as a stone cutter at Denner Hill, progressing to stone merchant. As Denner Hill stone was getting more difficult to find Thomas looked for alternative opportunities.
Thomas Bristow, stone merchant, bought Walters Ash Farm in 1896 in order to start a brickworks, the clay there being very suitable for bricks. Sandstone similar to that at Denner Hill was found in the clay and a stone works was also established. (Walters Ash Farm is the property at the far south in the parish, opposite Bradenham turn.)
The brickworks was launched on Jan 13th 1896. (T. Bristow and Bros.). click 1899 Brickworks at Walters Ash and click 1899 Stone Cutting as Walters Ash
