Marjorie Palmer
From Lacey Green History
Hallmark. Marjorie Palmer: Born September 1939. By Pat Richards
Marjorie and | have been friends for some 20 odd years and of course we have spent a number of years on PCC and also as Churchwardens for the last 8 years. We used to speak on the telephone most days and we worked well as a team.
Along with Margaret, we arranged many fund raising events and had great fun and plenty of laughs in the process. On one occasion, having made what seemed to be gallons of chilli to feed 80 people at a quiz night supper, we decided to make a pudding of apple crumble - having bought the ingredients, we realised we did not have enough oven space to cook or warm them on the night! A frantic morning was then spent making pavlovas on a ‘conveyor belt system’ in my kitchen. All was well in the end - except for the fact that we were eating apple crumble for some time afterwards!
Marjorie was particular in all things and took on so many jobs sometimes because she thought others would not do the jobs properly. Just a few weeks before she went into hospital, I volunteered to take the Church laundry to wash (and much to my amazement she agreed). She inspected it when | brought it back to Church and I think I must have got the seal of approval as I was I allowed to carry on!!
Her whole life revolved around her family and St John’s Lacey Green Church. She was utterly dependable and would always go the extra mile to achieve what she set out to do. She was a very caring person and has touched many people’s lives with her kindness. She was a great personal friend and a person one could depend on. She will be greatly missed by us all.
I know that this is a very sad time for her family and for us all but take comfort that she will now be at peace and no longer suffer pain.
