Ken & June Brazier

From Lacey Green History

In 2000 Maplehurst was purchased by Ken and June Brazier from Gladys Stevens, widow of Charles Stevens. ( Charles & Gladys Stevens)

Report by June Brazier :-

Ken, a self-employed Building surveyor, prepared drawings for its modernisation and extension. He also did a lot of the work himself.

Moving to Loosley Row was made easier by the fact we already knew three couples on Loosley Hill including Betty Biggs who has lived there all her life. Having a pub only 200 yds away and a friendly church less than a mile away were also good sources of making contact.

Being a building surveyor, Ken has always been interested in old buildings and he soon realised what an interesting structure the Lacey Green Windmill was. After a bit of coaching from Michael Hardy, we became volunteer wardens at the windmill and have been showing visitors round ever since. This has been very rewarding as visitors are extremely appreciative and amazed at the cleverness and sophistication of the engineering.

In conclusion, we both love where we live and have no intenton of leaving - unless it's feet first!
