Jesse Ward born 1799 in Speen was the son of Joseph & Rebecca Ward

Ruth Eggleton born 1811 was the daughter of Thomas & ? Eggleton

Jesse and Ruth were married in 1827

Jesse and Ruth had 4 children as follows :-

AIfred Ward born 1827 married Jane Maberly, in 1858. Jane died in 1871. In 1872 Alfred married again to Elizabeth Steel, known as 'Betsy', the daughter of the John Steel the miller. See Alfred & Betsy Ward for their life story

Jabez Ward born 1832 married Amelia Philbey from Great Missenden in 1851. Jabez died and Amelia remarried Thomas Eggleton White in 1857.

Mary Ann Ward 'Polly' born 1836 married Henry Allen in 1913. click Mary Ann Allen, nee Ward

THEIR PROPERTY On the road later called Lower Road, Lacey Green.

In the 1823 Enclosures of Princes Risborough this plot of land was allocated to Thomas Eggleton.   It was an old plot, rented from the Manor of Princes Risborough and had no house.   Ruth Eggleton, his daughter married Jesse Ward. When the house was built has not yet been established.

GROCERY AND CARPENTRY. Jesse and Ruth ran a grocery store and Jesse also worked in the their carpentry workshop

POST OFFICE. A sub-Post Office was added about 1840 when Post Offices first became established.

CARPENTERS. Jesse and all his sons were carpenters in the business. Much of their trade was in making coffins.

WILLIAM WOODS SELLS A PLOT

March 8th 1856.   Conveyance.  William Woods, mortgagee of Kiln Farm, sold to Jesse Ward of Loosley Row a piece of land that was part of Kiln Farm.

Schedule. A close of pasture land, known as ‘Pond Piece’, containing 2 acres, 3 roods, for £81.   It was part of Kiln Farm.   Subject to a private right of way for Joshua Dell, Richard Gibbs and William Woods (Ed.  later became Kiln Lane)

JESSE BUILDS ON POND PIECE. Jesse Ward built 2 cottages which were known as 1 Lime Tree Cottages and 2 Lime Tree Cottages.

1881 Death of Jesse aged 81

John Ward, son of Jesse, inherited ‘Pond Piece’ and the Lime Tree Cottages from his father. click John & Mary Ann Ward

Alfred Ward, son of Jesse, inherited the store, Post Office and carpentry business. click Alfred & Betsy Ward
