RESEARCHER’S NOTE
James Tilbury has only been put in this history, because he has caused a problem. He once owned some land and it is not known what he did with it. Maybe it will be revealed in due course.
ENCLOSURES OF PRINCES RISBOROUGH 1823
In the enclosures of Princes Risborough two allotments were made to James Tilbury.
1. One was plot no 683, a Freehold piece of land, being the driveway to the later called Floyds Farm. It had been allotted to Joshua Dell, but James Tilbury bought it off him. NOTE.There was no Main Road in Lacey Green at this time.
2. The other plot was no. 684, a piece of land, a new allotment, leasehold to the Manor. It was the plot upon which the Black Horse public house was later built.

James Tilbury 27, Elizabeth 25, Richard 3, living with James' uncle Thomas Tilbury 70 widower (the tenant farmer of what was later know as Floyds Farm).
1861 census in Highwood Bottom
Jams Tilbury 37 widower labourer, Ellen daughter 9. Elizabeth daughter 7
2nd M 1864 James Tilbury married Susannah Hawes, nee Ginger widow. born 1835 at Ye Olde Cottage, daughter of Joseph Hawes and his 2nd wife Jane Saunders.
Elizabeth (wife of James) died in 1859 aged 33.
CENSUS 1861
James, 37 widower, labourer, living in Highwood Bottom with Ellen & Elizabeth. Mary was not at home
2nd Marriage
In 1864 James Tilbury married Susannah Hawes (nee Ginger). Susannah was the widow of Jabez Hawes, son of Joseph Hawes of Ye olde Cottage. Jabez was the landlord of the ‘Whip’ public house when he died.

There remained descendants of James Tilbury living in Lacey Green. Ellen Brown 1851 – 1927 and her daughter Minnie, who married Fred Adams and Minnie’s daughter Phyllis who married Bill Dell. They had 4 children. And at the last count 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, many of whom still live in the village.
WHAT DID HE DO WITH HIS LAND
In 1823 James owned the driveway to Floyds Farm and the plot upon which the Black Horse was built. The Black Horse records a landlord in 1841. What had happened between 1823 and 1841?
