1975 From the Bucks Free Press. Good Advice After 50 Years Together. "Stop an argument before it goes too far" - that's the advice to newlyweds from Elsie and Gerald Rixon of Lacey Green, who celebrated their Golden Wedding on Sunday. Gerald 74 and Elsie 71 met in 1919 - and although they had a few differences of opinion over the years they made sure that any arguments which started weren't allowed to develop.

"Its easy enough just to stop arguing and say you're sorry" says Elsie.

The Rixons who live at Greenlands no 13, first met when Elsie went for a holiday from her home in North Kensington. Gerald lived with his family in the village.

"My grandparents were Bucks people" said Elsie "and I had been coming to the area since I was a child". "On this one occasion the woman I usually stayed with couldn't have me so I was sent to stay with Gerald's parents."

"Of course we got to know each other and began visiting each other's homes after the holiday, and we were married at St Helen's Church, North Kensington in 1925.

The Rixons have lived in Lacey Green ever since their wedding. They have one son, 47-year-old Leslie who lives with them.

Gerald worked first as a wood turner, then changed to road works "to get out into the fresh air". Elsie used to work in an office.

The couple have seen plenty of changes in their village over the years. "There was no water or electricity when we had our first house here," said Elsie. "Neither were there any buses - if we wanted to get anywhere we had to walk three quarters of an hour to Saunderton Station".

"We've watched the roads being made up" said Gerald "and the houses being built. The village has come a long way since we first lived here".

Elsie's hobbies have included music and needlework, and Gerald now enjoys watching cricket on television. He used to play for the Lacey Green team before he was married.

The couple belong to the village's Methodist Chapel and The 81st Club, and they have had anniversary gifts and congratulations from fellow members as well as family and other friends.

Research Note. Gerald and Elsie first lived at Currell Row no 1, then the Old Reading Room,(extended) next to Lacey Green School and the way into the airfield during WW2. They moved to Greenlands no 13 in 1952
