George & Eileen Cusack

From Lacey Green History

George and Eileen Cusack and daughters Pat and Sheila lived in Woodfield.

Ted Janes, editor of Hallmark wrote the following tribute to George after he died in 1980 :-

George provided the answer to the people who say that villagers don't accept newcomers, he was accepted in a few short years by his hard work in the village, his friendliness, interest and wit. His sudden death shocked the village.

He came to live at Woodfield, Lacey Green in 1966 from Surrey, when e took a position of senior lecturer at Slough College of Further Education (later renamed College of Higher Education). A fine craftsman with wood, he spent hundreds of hours helping to restore The Windmill, greatly appreciated by the restoration team was his expertise

Talented but modest artist, some of our Hallmark cover drawings were by George, "The Whip" 1976) "The Plough" (1977) and Hampden House (1978).

This last reproduced very faint, reminding me now of the silhouette one sees of Hampden House in the Saturday night T.V. series "The Hammer House of Horror"

George always made us laugh, as someone remarked the other day "I can't think of him without a smile, and that is how he would wish to be remembered".

Our sympathy goes to Eileen and daughters Pat and Sheila.
