Gate Cottage
From Lacey Green History
The editor of Hallmark commented - that Gate Cottage stood on the east side of Woodway just at its narrowest point and its demolition was a matter which had divided the villages for some years
Hallmark August 1992. Planning Application. Demolition of existing cottage, flat, garage and outbuilding and erection of 3 detached dwellings, garages and formation of new access - Gate Cottage, Upper Woodway.
In 1992 the following letter was printed in Hallmark by The Residents Association
Some of you may have noticed the planning application for the demolition of Gate Cottage, Woodway and the erection of two houses on the site. This development appears to be entirely inconsistent with the policies detailed in our District Council's 'Wycombe Rural Local Plan' and, therefore, the Association has submitted comments opposing it. The application also includes proposals for widening and realignment of Woodway adjacent to Gate Cottage; the narrowing of the road here has long been regarded by most residents as a desirable deterrent to speeding traffic entering the villages and, therefore, it was opposed on these grounds also.
All the residents should note that it is the number of submissions which count when planning applications are considered so, if you have a point of view, do submit it to the planning authority within the specified period - too late now for this particular application, complaining to your friends may make you feel better, but it won't effect the issue.
In 1993 letters were printed in Hallmark by those who wished to comment on the proposals, too late for it to effect the issue.
Hallmark January 1996. From The Residents Association report:-
The development of the old Gate Cottage site in Woodway proceeds apace. We, together with the full-time professional planners at Wycombe District, objected to this development of two houses in place of one, which is in direct conflict with the recommendations of the Department of Environment Policy Guidelines on Greenbelts. A dangerous precedent has been set by the Wycombe District Councillors, including our own Councillor, by giving way to the demands of the Developer and allowing two suburban type houses to be built on this prime Chiltern escarpment site.
