The wedding of Ernest and Daisy was reported in the Bucks Free Press as follows - " St. John`s Church, Lacey Green was on Nov.20th 1919, the scene of a very pretty wedding, which was largely attended by relatives and friends of the bride and bridegroom. The nuptials were between Mr. Ernest Smith, eldest son of the late Mr. J. Smith and of Mrs. Smith of Naphill and Miss Annie Daisy Saunders, youngest daughter of Mr. And Mrs. William Saunders of Stocken Farm, Lacey Green. See William Saunders & Bethia Janes. The high esteem in which the respective families are held in the district, no doubt accounted for the interest in the proceedings. A
The bride who was given away by her mother, was prettily attired in a powder blue georgette dress, trimmed with silk fringe, a necklace of pearls and spray of orange blossoms with hat adorned with ospreys, and carried a choice bouquet of white carnations and lilies (gifts of the bridegroom).
The bridesmaids were the Misses E and B Smith, sisters of the bridegroom, who were attired in dresses of grey crepe-de-chine, with georgette yokes and sleeves adorned with rose bud trimming and grey hats to match, and carried bouquets of pink carnations. The bridegroom`s gifts to the bridesmaids were gold bracelets.
Mrs Saunders wore a dress of black taffeta silk, trimmed with black silk fringe, and wore a black hat trimmed with feathers and a pale blue rose.
The service which was fully choral (the choir being in attendance) was conducted by the vicar (Reverend William Robson) and Mr. Frank Putnam acted as best man. The hymns included “Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us”, “The voice that breathed o`er Eden” and “How welcome was the call”. Before and during the service, appropriate wedding music was played by the organist (Miss Nancy Hawes) and the bridal couple left the sacred edifice to the strains of Mendelsohn`s “Wedding March”
A reception was afterwards held at Stocken Farm (the home of the bride) where about 120 guests assembled to offer their good wishes to the bride and bridegroom.
