Hallmark April 1986. Musical Loss. It is with regret we report the death of that prolific composer Edmund Rubbra. In all he wrote eleven symphonies and much chamber and vocal music. His first symphony was performed in 1937, about this time he was a distinguished figure seen walking the highways and byways of this area, getting, we suspect, some of his inspiration. Much of his early works were written in his studio on he bank of Valley Cottage, Highwood Bottom. His fourth symphony was included in the 1941 Proms. He will be a great loss to the musical world.
