Charles & Rosmary Isdell-carpenter

From Lacey Green History

In 1958 Proposed Derby & Joan Club. (this became The 81st Club). A group of helpers under the leadership of Mrs Isdell-Carpenter has been formed to start the club.

Mr & Mrs IsDell-Carpenter lived at The Salmon, Loosley Row.

(The following is an excerpt from the article 1956 Rita Probert (Autobiography)

In the 1950s here was still a 'class divide'. At The Salmon, Loosley Row lived Mr and Mrs Isdell-Carpenter, they, too, were kindly, but we ‘knew our place’ – they were upper class.   Their daughter Sally was one of the last Debutantes to be presented at Court.     They also had servants, which was very impressive.

Mrs Isdell-Carpenter started a sewing circle, then later thought it would be good to have a club for the older residents of Loosley Row & Lacey Green – thus the 81st Club was formed.   My mother became a helper and later, when elderly herself, a member.)

1962 Bucks Free Press Loosley Row News. At The 81st Club Christmas party on January 6th, the members were entertained by the singing of carols and songs both old and new by Speen choir. A coffee set was presented to Mrs Isdell-carpenter, retiring chairman on the occasion of her silver wedding and in view of the fact that she is leaving the district early in the new year. Mrs Isdellcarpenter gave the club 5 dozen cups and saucers.
