We had a super day on Sunday the 10th of October, which saw the reintroduction, after a year off due to COVID, of the village litter pick for both Lacey Green and Loosley Row.

It was lovely to see both lots of families taking part and that all our pickers and bags were fully utilised. Some unusual items were collected including a car bumper and various items of clothing!

It turned out to be quite a social community event, where some villagers met for the first time and had a bit of fun doing so. We had a sense of normality after what we must all admit has been a difficult time for many. I think that just the simple act of meeting neighbours and friends for a sunny afternoon’s stroll really can work wonders for the Spirits!

Our thanks go to Mr Newton, the headmaster at St John’s School, for helping to encourage junior litter pickers to attend the event. I don’t think we have seen a more enthusiastic set of youngsters, mums and dads set off, picker and litter bag in hand, to clear our roads and lanes of litter. Our thanks go also to the wonderful ladies of the W.I for supporting the day with tea and cakes, to Michaela Harris for helping out with extra pickers (over 40 used) and a very big shout out to Liz Patient for her invaluable support in helping me organise the event!

Lastly thanks to you, our villagers, for helping and coming along. And to those who couldn’t come this time.... fear not! We will have the next event in the spring and you'll have plenty of opportunity to chip in then!

Of course, litter and the causes of litter occur every day, largely due | think to the extra traffic passing through our lanes. Some of us sometimes pop out for a walk with a plastic bag in pocket and a litter picker in hand and collect the odd wrapper, plastic bottle etc along the way. Our thanks to you for you doing this. Every little helps!
