2003 Stan Rixon obituary

From Lacey Green History

The following obituary was written by Geoff Gomme & published in Hallmark :-

Former Lacey Green sportsman Stan Rixon passed away on Wednesday October 22nd at the age of 82 after several years of ill health.

Stan was an excellent all-round cricketer and a jolly companion. An accurate fast-medium bowler he played for more than twenty five years with the club. In his very last match none of his opponents could remove him from the crease.

He had played for the RAF during WW2 service and was good enough to be invited to trial for a county team. But his heart was always with Lacey Green where he was born and brought up. Stan played football in his younger days but cricket was always his first love and he would travel from his home in Princes Risborough to watch Lacey Green. He was a familiar sight on the boundary, clouds of smoke billowing from his pipe, while urging young bowlers to "pitch 'em up!"

Stan worked in a solicitor's office before his call-up. After service in England and Germany he became manager/projectionist at the Carlton cinema in Bell Street, Princes Risborough and from there moved to the planning department of Bucks County Council until his retirement.

Our sympathy goes to his widow Win, and to Graham and Valerie, son and daughter, and also to other members of his family. We shall miss him. He played hard and he played well,
