Extract from the Stocken Farm Diary by Joan West, as published in Hallmark
October 2002. Three months since I last wrote and plenty has been happening on the farm during that time. Most importantly Cherry and Wayne arrived safely from Zimbabwe with their three children.
They arrived with only the personal luggage allowed on the plane. The contents of their home being shipped via South Africa and yet to come.
They arrived at no.3 Stocken Cottages, Kiln Lane to be overwhelmed by the generous practical welcome extended to them by the village, piled on their doorstep. Also see 2002 Stocken Farm New Relief Herdsman Wanted.
PS. Added by me, Joan, at a later date. I wrote this Farm Diary article for Hallmark, starting in 1976. There were never any comments back nor complaints I'm glad to say. I did wonder sometimes if they were read. When the community responded to my article in July 2002 by giving such a generous heart-warming welcome to Wayne and Cherry I was so grateful. It was extraordinary. Thank you so much, whoever you were. The fact that you read my article? - Yes, that is also very nice to know.
