Aylesbury Vale Seido Karate. ‘Technique before Strength, Spirit before Technique’

Aylesbury Vale Seido Karate first opened its doors to adults at the Lacey Green Village Hall in January 2001. Nearly 9 years on we are an established karate club for adults and children training every Monday evening.

The goal of Seido Karate is the physical, mental and spiritual development of each student. Training is tailored to the individual, although carried out within a supportive group environment. All that is asked is that each student gives his or her 100% at all times.

Seido Karate was founded in 1976 by Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura. Kaicho Nakamura began his karate training in 1953, under Master Masutatsu Oyama, and became the youngest in Japan to receive a black belt in Kyokushinkai-kan.

He went on to earn his seventh dan and assume duties as chief instructor at the Kyokushinkai Honbu in Tokyo. In 1966, he was selected by Master Oyama as the best one to assume the challenge of bringing the true spirit of karate to New York. In 1976, Nakamura respectfully withdrew from Kyokushinkai.

He founded Seido Karate in 1976 and has built it into an organisation with more than 50 affiliated dojos around the world. Its New York Honbu (headquarters) is one of the largest schools in the world. Nakamaura has crystallised his ideals and beliefs into a philosophy of living that has given strength and inspiration to thousands of students around the world.

His innovative teaching methods offer a step by step program to strengthen the mind, body, and Spirit - an approach that makes Karate available to men, women and children of all ages and abilities.

Our Chief Instructor in the UK is 6 Dan Jun Shihan Roger Thyer-Jones who has been teaching Seido karate in the High Wycombe area since 1985.

Our main priority is in making karate-do accessible to all. For some this will mean fitness, others Spiritual development, and others purely self-defence. Seido karate stresses above all the philosophy that karate should teach ‘Technique before Strength, Spirit before Technique’.

If you train with us, you will undoubtedly become stronger and develop sound karate technique, but most of all, Seido aims to build a strength of spirit and attitude towards karate, and life.

This ‘non-quitting' spirit is a modern interpretation of the bushido (martial way) of the Japanese samurai.

Seido provides a structured environment for learning karate. The discipline and etiquette of a Japanese-based martial art creates a serious and respectful atmosphere in the dojo, and yet there is a close friendship and support between students, which is the essence of the Aylesbury Vale dojo.

If you feel you would like to visit us on a Monday evening: Children (aged 6 — 15) train from 6.30pm — 7.30pm and adults from 7.30pm — 9pm. Please come and join in and give it a go - or simply watch a class.

We look forward to having you along. Visit our website to find out more: or contact Stephen Fincham on 07540 531034.
