Hallmark 1987. Comment. Another very hot sunny day. Never in our wildest dreams did we expect 1985 to be surpassed, but by general consensus it most certainly was.
Report from the Bucks Free Press.1987
Exciting tennis on television did not detract from a high turn-out at Lacey Green's big day last weekend.
The bi-annual Village Day was blessed with hot sunshine and an excellent crowd , as TV celerity Lizzie Webb mingled with children and signed autographs. Mad Lizzie also watched a display of children's country dancing.
The centrepiece of the day's entertainment was a procession through the village led by the Boys' Brigade Band and featured decorated floats . The first prize for the best float was won by Loosley Row Baptist Chapel with the theme of The Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe.
Other attractions included a team of handbell ringers who came from over the border in Oxfordshire, children's fancy dress and an evening of country dancing in the Village Hall.
Fund raising went largely towards the village hall roof repair fund, and Pam Dell of the Lacey Green Village Day Committee, said organisers were hopeful of having surpassed their target of £1000. Other local organisations including the WI and Scouts also profited from the occasion.
Despite the success of the event, the Village Day is likely to happen only once every two years rather than become an affair in the future.
