From Hallmark 1982. Our Fete By a stallholder
By the law of average those of us preparing for the Fete knew we were overdue fine sunny day, and so it was, although only just as if poured down just as we were clearing the last piece of rubbish from the ground.
I feel that many people that came were a little disappointed to find a village fete in so confined an area and on a hard standing. Nevertheless if seemed many people enjoyed the free and friendly atmosphere.
It is of course ironical that high up In the Chilterns, an area of outstanding natural beauty, we can't find a suitable field on which to hold our annual fete, but that is contentious matter best not opened up again.
From the workers and organisers point of view, the Village Hall site has a lot going for it for a fund raising event. No hiring of a marquee and all the Village Hall facilities and equipment on the spot, with only grass missing. Who knows, one day we may have that, artificially!
The winners of the fancy dress were:-
Junior Section: (1st} Rebecca Gosling, (2nd) Gary Vockings,
Senior Section: (1st) Kate Bristow (2nd) Tamera Tappenden.
Special Prize: Cow and Milk Maid, Naomi Smith, Carole Young and Lucy Wakefield
Our thanks go to all the people who supported us, by donating prizes etc, , by helping run the stalls, preparing and clearing the event, and all the people that just came spend.
The Village Hall Fund profited by approximately £400.
Congratulations to organiser Lily Barber.
